Did you know...

  • In 1864, Macon was the temporary state capital as Milledgeville fell and Confederates fled to the ole MCN.
  • Macon became an island in 1994, but this was no vacation.  A tropical storm stalled over Georgia, dumping 21 inches of rain in a 48 hour period and flooding every road on the outskirts of the city for a brief period of time.
  • Macon is cursed.  Legend has it that Creek Indians put a curse on the banks of the Ocmulgee  River, stating that those who settle there will never be allowed to leave.  Depending on your opinion of Macon, this curse isn't too bad!
